Birdbath Styles
Birdbaths come in many
different styles and are made from all different types of
materials. One of the most traditional
birdbath styles is the pedestal bird bath. They come in a variety of designs and you
can choose them according to your own taste. They
have a classic feel about them and having one in your
garden will definitely be a great style statement along
with being an ideal place for the birds to bathe and
drink. The correct positioning of the bird bath is very
important and in order to ensure that the birds that visit
your garden are absolutely safe, you need to place the
pedestal bird baths at a distance of about five feet away
from bushes or shrubs. This is done since predators such
as cats can hide in bushes and attack the
birds.
Birdbaths can be made from
almost any material. Ceramic, concrete, metals such as
copper, bronze and steel, plastic (also known as resin), stone
and wooden are among the most popular. Since a bird bath
can be any shallow dish that holds water, the styles are
endless. I have seen hanging birdbaths
throughout gardens and one of my favorites is a deck mounted birdbath that is perfect for
people that live in urban areas where space is
limited. Fountains are also appealing since the
sound of water not only attracts the birds but also gives us
a sense of calm. You can purchase fountain birdbaths that
do not have electricity involved. Solar birdbaths use the sun as a power
source for running the pump to create the flow of
water. Heated bird baths are also
an option for the cold winter months. Bird bath heaters can be purchased as a
separate item and are easily used with any type of
birdbath.
I have found that giving a
bird bath as a house warming gift is greatly enjoyed by the
recipient for many years. Which ever type of birdbath you
choose, be assured that the birds will appreciate a safe place
to bathe and drink in your yard. And you and your family
will enjoy many hours of observing the many species of birds as
they frolic in the water.
